Performance Saga: Esther Ferrer DVD Cover. image copyright Performance Saga

Performance Saga (Andrea Saemann (Switzerland) & Karin Grögel (Germany))

The 'Performance Saga' DVD edition is a collection of video interviews with eight North American and European women pioneers of performance art. The artists were important figures for the development and establishment of performance art as a new form of artistic expression in the 1960s and 70s. The interviews are conducted by Andrea Saemann and the artist Chris Regn (*1964), who is also the co-director of the Hamburg women's art archive bildwechsel - dachverband für frauen/medien/kultur. In the conversations with the artists, the forerunners of performance art talk about their artworks and the conditions under which these were produced, giving us insight into how they see themselves and how they think. The 'Performance Saga' DVD edition is an enjoyable and informative introduction to performance art that provides a foundation for understanding its origins.
